  10. Try this:

Finca de Vida, a 35 acre organic farm and startup health retreat in San Salvador, Costa Rica (SW near San Isidro), is looking for a caretaker volunteer (person or couple) who can live on the farm full time for the next few months. If you know of anyone who needs a tranquil place to write, do their art, or want a tropical retreat, we’d appreciate any recommendations. There are secured cabins at the end of a quiet country road, electricity, spring water and hot water, and many like-minded people living nearby. Contact Brian and Jody Calvi,, for responsibilities and details.

  11. I tried to email the farm and it stated “message undeliverable”. I came across your ad when I googled volunteer work in Costa Rica. My husband and I would like to visit and live in Costa Rica November or December 2009- March 2010 or possibly longer. I am from the U.S and am a native English speaker but I also speak Spanish. My husband is a native Spanish speaker but speaks fluent English. My husband has worked in agriculture most of his life and would be an ideal candidiate as a volunteer worker. My understanding is that room and board would be provided. If you are still seeking help, please email me.

  12. i will be in costa rica for all of august and most of september. the main reason i am going is to practice my spanish. does the family plan on learning english or will i have the chance to be submerged in the language?

    • Dear Jessie,

Thank you for writing us at ICCCR. I am glad to hear you are coming to Costa Rica later this summer. Do you know where you will be staying in Costa Rica? Are you seeking a reference for a Spanish immersion school or program? If so, I can recommend a quality, economical Spanish-immersion homestay program, with a Costa Rican family, just outside of San Jose. The name of the school is Pura Vida Language Institute: or visit the blog: The director’s name is Hamid.

Let us know if we can be of any further assistance!

    • I am a 28 year old male from south carolina. I am currently exploring my options into the next steps I want to take with my life. One of my goals is to have a farm of my own one day. I would love love to learn what it takes to harvest crops and raise animals. I also have been wanting to travel to Costa Rica for a long while now and I would love to volunteer and help some nice people out for exchange for a place to stay. This seems to be just the experience I am looking for at this time in my life. I know very little spanish but I learn quickly. Please contact me as soon as possible regarding the details.

I would love to hear more about this experience.
